Company Powers to Share Personal Data

Last week I discussed the ICO Data Sharing Code of Practice Consultation Paper.

I made a comment on the Tech and Law blog post about the consultation. The draft code of practice said private companies should check whether they had the power to share personal data, and not being a lawyer, I had difficulty determining what this would mean to a typical company.

An extensive and very helpful reply to my comment was added as a new blog post today. If you are a private sector organisation in England, please read it. It includes some interesting comments about companies' powers.
