Check Your Certificate Expiry Dates

Since I've been writing about SSL Certificates recently, I thought I'd share a screen capture I took a year or so ago of an expired certificate warning.

Screen capture of the AlertSite secure login page at https://www.alertsite.com/login.shtml showing a browser pop-up alert (details in next image below)

This time it wasn't the site I was on, but some embedded code from a third party:

Screen capture 'Server Certificate Expired - www.googleadservices.com is a site that uses a security certificate to encrypt data during transmission, but its certificate expired on 05/03/2008 16:52 / You should check to make sure that your computer's time (currently set to 05 March 2008 17:09:08) is correct / Would you like to continue anyway? / View certificate / Continue / Cancel'

Yes my computer's time was correct. So, even large organisations can get this wrong. Having a schedule of all certificates, domain names, software licences and other agreements for your website helpd keep track of time dependent renewals.

And, I wonder just why did AlertSite feel the need to have code from the Google Advertising on their login page?
